Why and How to Donate to your Church
Why and How Should Believers Give?
Why do we encourage you to tithe to support our church? Let's look at what the Bible teaches us about giving.
It is expected of Believers
In Matthew 6:2, Jesus said, "when you give," not "if you give." The bible indicates that giving is an expectation of every believer.
It is an act of worship
Our giving should be an act of worship, not so we can be admired by others, but so we can glorify God and serve His people and mission (Matt 6:1, 1 Corinthians 16:2).
A tithe is a portion (10%) of your income given as a financial donation to your local church. It is given in recognition and gratitude for the blessings God has bestowed. It is first and foremost an act of worship, not merely a duty.
We should give in accordance with our means
Our giving is to be in line with the means of individuals or families (2 Corinthians 8:12, I Corinthians 16:2). Followers of Jesus should practice regular sacrificial giving. The amount looks very different for different households. God is honoured by the commitment, not the amount.
We should give cheerfully
Giving is to be done cheerfully and willingly, not grudgingly or under compulsion (2 Corinthians 9:7).
Why Make Consistent Financial Donations by Tithing a Percentage of Your Income?
To Give your Heart over to God
Why does the church encourage you to tithe regularly rather than simply donating toward causes that you want to support?
Consistent tithing is a way to give your heart over to God because you are physically reminding yourself that He provides what you need, and your security lies in Him alone.
to support the work of the local church
Your donations will go toward the general budget at our church.
Sometimes churches allow designated giving, which means donors can specify how their donation will be spent. We don't offer that. This allows our leadership team to allocate funds where they are needed most.
Our leadership team is tasked with managing a yearly budget which the church members have approved.
We Offer Donors a Transparent, Accountable Process
The leadership team makes decisions throughout the year regarding expenses. They report back to the congregation in a transparent, accountable way.
Our church is registered with Revenue Canada. We will issue a donation receipt that you can use for income tax purposes.
If you would like to donate property or goods, Revenue Canada recommends using an appraiser. Please contact the office for more information.
All donations are considered gifts. Revenue Canada does not allow donors to receive goods or services in exchange for a financial contribution.
We are Grateful for your Participation
